Betsy (far right) with her 2011 trumpet students after a studio recital
Betsy has been teaching trumpet lessons for over 20 years and feels lucky to have had so many amazing students come through her studio. She has worked with students as young as 8 years old and as old as 80+ and it is an incredible experience to see how dedication to playing trumpet can transform anyone. Every year, Betsy's students participate in Regional and All State Bands as well as the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra. Her students have participated in many summer music programs including National Youth Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival, Interlochen, Chautauqua, Oberlin, Curry (NAU), and Tucson Brass Workshop. They have won prizes in competitions through the International Trumpet Guild, National Trumpet Competition, and Tucson Symphony Young Artist Competition. Many have gone on to major in trumpet at schools such as the Cleveland Institute of Music, Vanderbilt, Arizona State University, UCLA, Boston University, Yale University, and our own University of Arizona. Many others have chosen other wonderful career paths that have been positively influenced by having studied music at a high level. Betsy strongly believes that studying music develops creative problem solving, self-discipline, great communication skills, perseverance, and assertiveness, which are all skills that lead to success in any field.
Betsy is also the founder and director of Tucson Brass Workshop and is an instructor with the Tucson Symphony's acclaimed Young Composer Project.
